Kadokawa has unveiled a new promotional video for the upcoming original anime Goodbye, Lara (Sayonara Lara). The video offers a first listen to the anime's opening theme, titled "Sayonara Lara" and performed by the band Ikimono-gakari. The PV also introduces several new additions to the voice cast.
Joining the previously announced cast are Tomohiro Ōno as Yoshihiro Otsu, Mari's older brother; Mitsuaki Madono as Mari's father, Makoto Otsu; Nanae Sumitomo as Mari's grandmother, Ema Otsu; and Masaki Terasoma as Rowan, the king of the sea and Lara's father. These actors will voice characters central to Lara's story in modern-day Japan.
The series, which draws parallels to "The Little Mermaid," follows a mermaid who wishes to be loved by a human. Reborn 200 years later in Japan's Lake Biwa, she navigates the complexities of the human world. The anime is slated for a July premiere and will see its U.S. debut at Anime Central, taking place May 15-17.
Hana Hishikawa stars as Lara, with Nana Kawaishi voicing Mari Otsu. The production is helmed by director Takushi Koide at Kinema Citrus, with Anna Kawahara handling series scripts and Shiori Tani on character design. Yuma Yamaguchi is composing the music for Kadokawa.
