Following reports of significant subtitle synchronization errors during last weekend's screenings of The Last Blossom, GKIDS has issued a formal apology to affected moviegoers. The distributor confirmed that a technical glitch within the digital cinema package (DCP) caused the text to lag by several seconds, prompting the company to pause ticket sales and cancel select screenings while a fix was implemented. By Monday, a corrected version of the film had been dispatched to theaters, though some locations were unable to update their systems in time.

In a statement regarding the disruption, GKIDS expressed regret for falling short of the standards expected for the theatrical experience. The company noted that it is currently evaluating the feasibility of hosting makeup screenings to ensure audiences have the opportunity to view the film as intended. The original release was slated for a limited run on August 30 and 31, making the scheduling of any potential make-up dates a complex logistical challenge for the distributor.

Amidst these technical hurdles, GKIDS clarified that its upcoming theatrical release of cocoon โ€“ One Summer of Girlhood remains on schedule. The adaptation of Machiko Kyลโ€™s manga is set to open in North American theaters on September 4, featuring both Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub. While some minor fluctuations in theater locations are common during the lead-up to a premiere, the company confirmed that the rollout for this title is proceeding as planned.
