The anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Tsushima Kuroudo Kitan, will now premiere in 2028. The announcement, delivered during the Crunchyroll showcase at New York Comic Con 2026, confirms a one-year delay from the project's initial 2027 release target.
Alongside the scheduling update, the production revealed new additions to the voice cast: Mayumi Saco, known for her work on Vinland Saga Season 2, and Shinya Fukumatsu, recognized for Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill. While their roles remain under wraps, they join a high-profile creative team led by director Takanobu Mizuno at studio Kamikaze Douga, with series composition handled by Gen Urobuchi.
The production staff also features notable industry veterans, including character designer Takashi Okazaki, sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami, and composer Keiji Inai. The project is a collaborative effort between Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions, aiming to translate the open-world samurai epic to the screen.
Why it matters: The shift to 2028 provides the team at Kamikaze Douga more time to finalize the project, though the specific reasons for the delay remain unconfirmed. With the recent release of the game's sequel, Ghost of Yotei, in late 2025, interest in the franchise's cinematic potential remains high among fans of the original 2020 title.
