The Mercenary Sisters (Shimai Yōhei) light novel series is making the jump to print with a new manga adaptation. Debuting on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype and KadoComi platforms, the project features art by Ka Sakana and brings Ghost Mikawa’s gritty story of survival to a visual medium.
Set in a high-stakes foreign conflict zone, the narrative follows 17-year-old Rinko Isumi, a rookie who signs up for a private military firm expecting a simple part-time job. Her reality quickly shifts when she is paired with veteran mercenary Nagisa Mizusaki. The story focuses on their bond as sisters-in-arms, with Nagisa teaching the inexperienced Rinko the harsh realities of survival, from combat tactics to basic field logistics.
Author Ghost Mikawa is a prolific name in the industry, best known for the light novel series Days With My Stepsister (Gimai Seikatsu) and My Friend's Little Sister Has It In for Me! (Tomodachi no Imōto ga Ore ni Dake Uzai). Both previous works have seen significant success, including ongoing English releases from Yen Press and J-Novel Club, respectively, as well as television anime adaptations that were streamed on Crunchyroll.
With the original Mercenary Sisters novel having been published by Kadokawa just last year, this rapid expansion into manga highlights the publisher's confidence in Mikawa's latest work. The adaptation serves as the next step for a franchise that blends intense tactical settings with the character-driven drama Mikawa’s readers have come to expect.
