Geek Pictures India has officially unveiled Panchsheela, an original magical girl anime project developed as a creative collaboration between India and Japan. The series follows five ordinary schoolgirls—Mezi, Kaya, Amba, Zoonie, and Tara—who are thrust into a supernatural conflict after an ancient force known as Daki Daayan escapes centuries of imprisonment.
According to the project's official site, the protagonists are tasked with channeling the power of sacred chakras to combat 'Negatives,' individuals transformed by the antagonist into an army of destruction. The narrative promises a blend of high-stakes magical combat and the grounded realities of student life, including academic pressure, personal relationships, and the challenges of hostel living. The girls are supported by a mentor named Guru Garu and five mystical animal companions.
Geek Pictures India operates as a subsidiary of the Tokyo-based Geek Pictures, which also oversees the animation studio Geek Toys. While the announcement confirms the premise and character lineup, details regarding the production staff, release window, or distribution platforms remain unconfirmed. Given the studio's history with Geek Toys, which merged with the parent company in 2023, the industry will be watching to see how this cross-cultural production integrates traditional magical girl tropes with its specific Indian cultural setting.
