Producer Daisuke Satō, a key figure at Nagoshi Studio, has updated his social media profiles to indicate he is no longer with the company. Satō, who previously served as a producer on the Yakuza series, now lists himself as an 'ex-Nagoshi Studio' employee on platforms including Instagram and X/Twitter.
Further fueling speculation, a recent feature in Weekly Famitsu magazine listed Satō simply as a game developer, omitting his producer title at Nagoshi Studio. The studio itself has also become difficult to access, with its official website currently unavailable as of June 22.
These developments follow reports from March by Bloomberg that parent company NetEase Games had significantly reduced funding for Nagoshi Studio. The alleged funding cuts were reportedly due to the high projected cost of completing the studio's game, Gang of Dragon, which was announced at The Game Awards in December and remains listed on Steam.
Nagoshi Studio was established in January 2022 by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the Yakuza series, and Satō, both of whom departed Sega in October 2021. The studio's future, and specifically the status of Gang of Dragon, remains uncertain amidst these recent personnel and financial shifts.
