The Funbarus posture support plush toy line, designed to help users maintain better desk posture, is expanding into the world of animation. Manufacturer Dreams announced that a short-form anime series will debut this October, bringing the anthropomorphic characters to the screen. The two-minute episodes will premiere on BS Yoshimoto on October 3 at 11:25 p.m. JST, followed by a broadcast on Tokyo MX starting October 5.
Production for the series utilizes a distinct "2D x AI hybrid" technique. While the core character designs, storyboards, and key animation frames are crafted using traditional 2D methods, the studio incorporates 3D CG and AI-driven digital tools to generate the final sequences. The project is directed by Kazumi Nonaka, known for his work on Mameushi-kun, with scripts written by Takeshi Takemura and music composed by Ryu Kawasaki.
The narrative centers on Nossori, a sloth voiced by Wataru Komada, who spends his time listening to the casual conversations of the humans he supports, often letting his imagination run wild. He is joined by a colorful cast including KΕtarΕ Nishiyama as the energetic monkey Montan and Sayuri Hara as the reliable rabbit Hop. The supporting cast features a wide array of talent, including Kenta Miyake, Kento Shiraishi, and Hayato Kimura.
Since their 2023 debut, the Funbarus plush toys have gained popularity as functional desk accessories intended to be placed between a user and their desk to prevent slouching. With the series leaning into a whimsical, imaginative premise, it remains to be seen how the show's experimental production process will translate the tactile nature of the toys into a weekly broadcast format.
