The upcoming television adaptation of Kyouko Hikawa’s From Far Away (Kanata Kara) has released a substantial promotional video and a new key visual. The trailer provides a first listen to the series' musical identity, featuring the opening track "Tōkōkō" by the boy group Genin wa Jibun ni Aru. and the ending theme "Hikari no Gawa de" by the band Nanashi no Tarō.
Expanding the roster of voice talent, the production confirmed that Kimiko Saitō will voice Gaya, with Tadashi Miyazawa as Gorya, Taisuke Nakano as Agol, and Miku Itō as Gina Haas. These actors join a lead cast that includes Tomoyo Kurosawa as the protagonist Noriko Tachiki and Kentarō Kumagai as the enigmatic Izark. The production staff has also grown, adding Art Director Masaki Mayuzumi and Color Key Artist Imari Katsuragi to the team overseen by director Noriyuki Abe.
This project brings Hikawa’s 14-volume shōjo epic to the screen long after its original serialization in LaLa magazine concluded in 2003. The story centers on Noriko, a high schooler thrust into a hostile fantasy realm where her fate becomes intertwined with Izark, a man rumored to harbor a destructive power. Studio DEEN is handling the animation, with series scripts written by Rika Takasugi.
Broadcasts are slated to begin on Tokyo MX on October 4 at 24:00 JST, with subsequent airings on ABC TV and WOWOW starting later that month. Given the significant gap between the manga's conclusion and this adaptation, the series faces the challenge of translating a foundational 90s fantasy work for a modern television audience.
