French President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled an ambitious 6 billion euro (approximately US$7 billion) plan to develop three major theme parks in the Cergy-Pontoise region, located roughly 30 kilometers from Paris. The initiative, which represents the largest theme park development in the country since the construction of Disneyland Paris, was solidified through a memorandum of understanding signed during a recent state visit by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
Central to the announcement is the inclusion of a dedicated manga-themed park. While official details remain limited, reports from the BBC and other international outlets indicate that this specific park is expected to be centered around the iconic Dragon Ball franchise. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Qiddiya Investment Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund that is also spearheading a similar Dragon Ball-themed attraction within its home country.
Local reports suggest that the development could occupy the former site of Mirapolis, a park that shuttered in 1991. The French government projects the endeavor will generate 22,000 new jobs for the region. Despite the scale of the announcement, the government has yet to provide a timeline for construction or a potential opening date for the parks.
