French entertainment group Ankama is set to launch its original television anime, Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar, on October 2. The series will air on Tokyo MX, with the production team confirming a premiere time of 9:25 p.m. JST. The story follows the unlikely partnership between Welsh, a village boy with a knack for cooking, and Shedar, a prince destined for the throne, as they join forces to thwart a tyrant's global conquest.
The production is helmed by director Naoki Horiuchi at Studio Massket, drawing on his experience with titles like Kingdom and Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-. Character design and chief animation direction are led by Saori Nakashiki, who is supported by chief animation directors Yoshiaki Tsubata and Yuki Ikeda. The Japanese-language script is being managed by Kenichi Yamashita, while the series' musical score is a collaboration between Pierre-Jean Beaudoin and Jose Pavli.
Ankama, known primarily for its long-standing tactical MMORPG DOFUS, is leveraging its creative background to produce this high-fantasy project. With Tot credited for the original work and series outline, the show aims to blend traditional fantasy tropes with a character-driven narrative. As the October premiere approaches, the newly revealed key visual provides the first concrete look at the series' aesthetic and its two leads.
