Final Fantasy XIV is heading to a new saga with its next expansion, titled Evercold, slated for a January 2027 release. The announcement came during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026 in Anaheim, where director and producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that Evercold will kick off the game's new 'Godless Realms' storyline. Players will journey to the Fourth, one of thirteen reflections of the original Source world, encountering new creatures such as the 'Wanderer,' Arcane Giants, and a previously unseen cat-like race.

Adding a significant crossover, the expansion's Alliance Raid series will be a collaboration with the iconic Neon Genesis Evangelion. This raid, named 'Ghosts of Desire,' promises to bring elements of the beloved mecha anime into the MMORPG. The expansion will also introduce substantial gameplay adjustments, including an updated Adventurer Activity user interface and a move towards a weekly activity system, departing from the current daily focus.

The MMORPG, which has amassed nearly 35 million registered accounts globally, continues its robust content pipeline. The first part of the upcoming 7.5 patch for the Dawntrail expansion is scheduled to launch next Tuesday. More details regarding Evercold are expected to be shared at future Fan Fest events, including those in Berlin on July 25-26 and Tokyo from October 31-November 1.

Square Enix has committed to supporting Final Fantasy XIV for at least another decade, following the success of its previous expansions like Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and the recently released Dawntrail. The game, originally launched in 2010 and revitalized as A Realm Reborn in 2013, is also developing a mobile version for iOS and Android devices, set to launch in China first before a worldwide release.
