The MMORPG Final Fantasy XI is celebrating its 24th anniversary with a newly released animated short. The film, titled "Our Adventure Never Ends," was previewed on the game's official X account, commemorating 24 years of the Vana'diel saga.
Created by animation filmmaker Wakaboku, the minute-long short features music composed by Square Enix's Naoshi Mizuta. It follows a party of players as they traverse the world of Vana'diel, engage in monster battles, and showcases the various races and jobs available in the long-running MMORPG.
Launched on May 16, 2002, for the PlayStation 2, Final Fantasy XI later received PC and Xbox 360 ports. The game has seen five major expansions since its debut, with its latest, "Seekers of Adoulin," arriving in 2013. The most recent story arc, "The Voracious Resurgence," concluded in May 2023.
Notably, the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion, "Dawntrail," slated for July 2024, will include an Alliance Raid series directly referencing Final Fantasy XI.
