The conclusion to Square Enix’s ambitious reimagining of the classic RPG, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has officially set its sights on an April 8 release. Revealed during Sony's latest State of Play, the third and final installment of the trilogy will arrive simultaneously across a wide array of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

New footage showcased during the event highlights expanded gameplay mechanics, most notably the introduction of 'Fits.' This system allows players to transform characters into traditional franchise roles such as Black Mage, Knight, and Summoner. The trailers also confirmed that Cid and Vincent will join the playable roster, with the Highwind airship and Chocobo companion Piko featured as primary modes of traversal. Exploration will be more fluid, as players can now swap between any party member at will while navigating the world.

Narratively, director Naoki Hamaguchi has framed the title around the theme of 'resolve' as the cast prepares for their final confrontation. Beyond the main story, the game promises to integrate lore from the broader Final Fantasy VII compilation and pits players against formidable endgame threats, including the Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapons. The inclusion of the nation of Wutai suggests a significant expansion of the game's scope compared to previous entries.

This release marks a notable shift in Square Enix's distribution strategy, as the trilogy moves from its origins as a PlayStation-exclusive project to a multi-platform launch. With the previous entry, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, having expanded to Xbox and Switch 2 earlier this year, the franchise is now firmly established across all major current-gen hardware. Given the scope of the final chapter, which characters' 'Fits' are you most interested in testing first?
