Square Enix has unveiled a new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance during the Tokyo Game Show, offering a fresh look at the game's HD-2D aesthetic and debuting the theme song, "Inside" by WurtS. The title serves as a console-quality offline adaptation of the opening story arc from the now-defunct mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
The game follows protagonists Rain and Lasswell as they navigate the kingdom of Grandshelt and attempt to protect the world's remaining crystals from the mysterious Veritas of the Dark. The cast features notable voice talent, including Nobuhiko Okamoto and Clifford Chapin as Rain, alongside Yลซsuke Kobayashi and Alejandro Saab as Lasswell. The project is set to launch on October 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
This release marks a shift for the franchise, transitioning the narrative of the original mobile game into a standalone console experience. Square Enix has confirmed that the game will support both Japanese and English audio. Collectors can look forward to a physical edition featuring an artbook, soundtrack, and promotional cards for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, alongside various digital bonuses for early adopters.
While the original mobile game concluded its service in 2024 and 2025 for international and Japanese markets respectively, Final Fantasy Resonance aims to preserve its core narrative. The move follows the studio's previous experiment with the HD-2D format for console-based adaptations of mobile titles. With the release date just weeks away, it remains to be seen how the transition from a gacha-based mobile structure to a traditional console RPG format will resonate with long-time fans of the series.
