Fate/Extra Record, the ambitious remake of the 2010 PSP classic, is finally heading to modern hardware. During Sony’s latest State of Play broadcast, Aniplex confirmed that the title will launch on January 28, 2026, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The announcement follows a turbulent development cycle that saw the project delayed past its original 2025 window and a shift in publishing responsibilities from Bandai Namco to Aniplex.
While the game’s development structure underwent significant changes—including the departure of director Kazuya Nino—the core aesthetic remains anchored by returning character designer Arco Wada. The new trailer highlights updated gameplay mechanics and story sequences, offering a glimpse at how the "Extraverse" continuity has been modernized. To celebrate the announcement, Type-Moon plans to host a special program this Friday to dive deeper into the game's current state.
Fans looking to pick up the title will have several options, including a physical Limited Edition featuring a three-disc soundtrack, a SteelBook case, and an artbook. The Digital Deluxe Edition will offer a suite of digital extras, such as an arranged BGM pack and various outfit bundles.
This release marks a return to the series' roots, which previously inspired the 2018 anime series Fate/Extra Last Encore by studio SHAFT.
