Aniplex has debuted a new character promotional video for Fate/Extra Record, the upcoming remake of the classic 2010 PSP title. The trailer puts the spotlight on Caster, with Chiwa Saitō reprising her role to voice the servant. This latest look at the game arrives as the project nears its final release date following a series of development shifts and scheduling delays.
After initially being announced in 2020 to commemorate the original game's 10th anniversary, the remake has undergone significant structural changes, including a transition in publishing duties to Aniplex. The project also saw the departure of director Kazuya Nino, who stepped down earlier this year due to health concerns. Despite these hurdles, the game is now confirmed to arrive on January 28 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
For those looking to dive into the "Extraverse" continuity, the game will be available in both a physical Limited Edition and a Digital Deluxe version, each packed with bonus content like artbooks and soundtrack collections. While the remake updates the original's mechanics, it retains the core aesthetic of the series with character designer Arco Wada returning to the project.
Beyond the original PSP release, the franchise has expanded significantly over the years, including the 2018 anime series Fate/Extra Last Encore produced by SHAFT and the action-heavy Fate/EXTELLA spin-offs. With the release date finally set, it remains to be seen how the remake's updated gameplay systems will align with the established narrative of the original title.
