Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for Final Destination: Bloodlines, have been tapped by Sony Pictures to helm the live-action adaptation of the Metal Gear Solid video game series. The directing duo expressed their excitement, calling the game a "groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece" and stating their honor in bringing Hideo Kojima's characters and world to the screen.
Avi Arad and Ari Arad remain attached as producers for the project. Previous reports from Deadline indicated that Oscar Isaac was set to portray the iconic protagonist Solid Snake. Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who directed Kong: Skull Island, was initially slated to direct the film, with Derek Connolly attached to write the script.
This adaptation has been in development for years, with series creator Hideo Kojima first announcing film plans back in 2006. The project faced numerous delays and shifts in creative personnel over the years. The Metal Gear Solid games typically follow special forces operative Solid Snake as he uncovers global conspiracies, with the original 1998 PlayStation title involving a nuclear launch facility in Alaska.
