During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, publisher Drawn & Quarterly unveiled plans to bring two acclaimed manga titles to English-speaking readers. The company confirmed it has secured the rights to Shigeo Ito’s Marmalade Princess and Hinako Sugiura’s Lady Hokusai, with release windows slated for spring and fall of 2027, respectively.
Sugiura’s work, originally titled Sarusuberi, is perhaps best known to animation enthusiasts for its 2015 feature film adaptation. Directed by Keiichi Hara and produced by Production I.G, the film earned critical acclaim for its artistic portrayal of O-Ei, the daughter of the famous ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai. The upcoming print release will provide readers a chance to experience the original source material.
The publisher also reaffirmed its commitment to a diverse slate of upcoming manga titles. The schedule includes Murasaki Yamada’s Sassy Cats arriving November 3, Hideshi Hino’s A Lullaby From Hell on November 10, and Yōko Kondō’s One Woman and the War, which is currently set for a spring 2027 launch.
