Square Enix has officially confirmed that its long-running Dragon Quest franchise has surpassed 100 million units in cumulative sales across both physical and digital formats. To mark the occasion, series creator Yūji Horii shared a commemorative video reflecting on the milestone, which arrives as the publisher continues to aggressively expand the series' presence on modern hardware.

The announcement highlights a busy period for the franchise, which has seen a steady stream of remakes and new releases. Recent efforts include the HD-2D remakes of the original trilogy—Dragon Quest I & II and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation—alongside the upcoming release of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, slated for December 3. Additionally, the company is preparing for the launch of the definitive edition of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this month.

While the franchise celebrates its past, fans are still awaiting further details on the future of the mainline series. Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams remains the most anticipated upcoming installment, though Square Enix has yet to provide a specific release window. With the recent cross-platform push for both classic remakes and spin-offs like Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD-, the publisher is clearly positioning the series to maintain its momentum across current and next-generation consoles.
