Ahead of the September 9 premiere of Made in Korea season two, Disney+ has launched a three-episode prequel webtoon on Kakao Page to flesh out the narrative gap between seasons. The digital comic serves as a bridge, detailing the nine-year period following the events of the first season as protagonist Ki-tae Baek maneuvers toward greater political influence.
Set against the backdrop of the 1970s, the live-action series stars Hyun Bin as Baek, a CIA agent juggling a clandestine life as a smuggler, and Woo-sung Jung as the relentless prosecutor Geon-young Jang tasked with bringing him down. The webtoon expands on this dynamic, offering deeper insight into the shifting alliances and personal evolutions of the cast that the main series episodes do not fully explore.
Visuals for the prequel are provided by artist Lee Mugi, known for his work on the webtoon I Am a Sinner. This collaboration marks a continued partnership between the creator and the platform, as an adaptation of I Am a Sinner is already slated for a Disney+ release next year. While the webtoon is currently limited to Korean-language platforms, the live-action series remains available for international viewers via Hulu.
