During its panel at New York Comic Con 2026, Dark Horse Comics announced a new anthology from acclaimed manga artist Gou Tanabe. Titled The Outsider and Other Early Adaptations, the collection features Tanabe’s take on H.P. Lovecraft’s The Outsider, alongside his interpretations of literary works by Anton Chekhov and Maxim Gorky. Zack Davisson is attached as the translator for the volume.
Beyond the Tanabe collection, the publisher revealed two major new projects. Blue Eye Samurai: Cry of the Yurei is a new western-style comic series written by K. Perkins and Mike Johnson, featuring art by Aviv Or. Additionally, Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei is collaborating with Will Carter and Aidan White on Martial War, a graphic novel produced in partnership with the UFC. The story centers on a tournament-style setting where fighters wield powerful 'Tatara stones' and will be presented in a right-to-left reading format.
These announcements continue Dark Horse’s extensive commitment to Tanabe’s Lovecraftian manga adaptations. The publisher has previously released several of his works, including The Call of Cthulhu, which received a Bram Stoker Award in 2025, and the recently released The Dunwich Horror. Fans can also look forward to Tanabe’s adaptation of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, which is currently scheduled for a spring 2027 release.
