The supernatural mystery Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) is set to continue. Following the broadcast of the first season's final episode this past Sunday, the production team confirmed that a second season is currently in development. The announcement was accompanied by a promotional video released via Aniplex’s official YouTube channel.
The series, which adapts the manga by Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa, premiered in April 2026. The first season, produced by studio Bones, covered 24 episodes over two consecutive cours. The core staff, including director Masahiro Andō, series script supervisor Noboru Takagi, and character designer Nobuhiro Arai, guided the show through its initial run, which maintained a solid reception with an AniList average of 78/100 as of mid-September.
While the first season established the central conflict between the twin protagonists, Yuru and Asa, and the mysterious forces surrounding their village, details regarding the production schedule or a return window for the second season remain unconfirmed. The series continues to be available for international viewers on Crunchyroll, which provided both subtitled and dubbed versions during the initial broadcast.
Why it matters: The swift renewal highlights the continued popularity of Arakawa's latest work, which currently holds a 7.88 rating on MAL from over 35,000 users. With the manga ongoing since 2021 and 13 volumes published to date, the production has ample source material to draw from for the upcoming season.
