Cyborg 009: Nemesis has added Mitsuaki Kanuka to its voice cast, portraying Cyborg 006, also known as Chang Changku. The new anime adaptation based on Shōtarō Ishinomori's iconic manga is slated to stream this summer.
Kanuka joins a growing roster for the series, which includes Yūki Kaji as the protagonist Joe Shimamura/Cyborg 009. Other Cyborgs featured are Yuu Hayashi as Cyborg 008/Pyunma and Kentarō Tone as Cyborg 007/Great Britain.
The anime's antagonist group, Nemesis, also has its full lineup confirmed. Yūichi Nakamura voices Graviton/Nemesis 009, Ayane Sakura is Deps/Nemesis 008, and Maaya Uchida portrays Morphone/Nemesis 007. The remaining Nemesis members are Shion Wakayama as Blitz/Nemesis 006, Tetsu Inada as Aspida/Nemesis 005, Kikuko Inoue as Opro/Nemesis 004, Hiroshi Kamiya as Crack/Nemesis 003, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Blizzard/Nemesis 002, and Rina Hidaka as Mu/Nemesis 001.
Hideki Ambo is directing the anime at Arect, with Atsuhiro Tomioka and CHARATEX handling the screenplay. The theme song, "Taga Tame ni" (For Whom), is performed by Kyōko from Barbee Boys and is a new take on the song originally featured in the 1979 Cyborg 009 TV anime.
Ishinomori's original manga, which began serialization in 1964, has spawned multiple anime series, films, and OVAs throughout the decades. This latest project continues the legacy of the cyborg soldiers battling against the nefarious Black Ghost organization.
