Netflix has released a fresh look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, showcasing a high-stakes escape sequence set within an Akasaka building. The footage provides a glimpse into the series' new narrative, which the production team describes as a standalone 10-episode story focused on themes of redemption and revenge within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
The production sees several key creative figures from the original series returning, including producer and writer Bartosz Sztybor and scriptwriter Masahiko Otsuka. Kai Ikarashi, who previously contributed to the first series as a storyboard artist and animator, steps into the director's chair for this installment. The character designs are being led by Ichigo Kanno, another veteran of the franchise's animation team.
The series is set to arrive on Netflix on October 20, following an early premiere screening held at Anime Expo this past July. The soundtrack will feature a mix of classic and contemporary tracks, including The Cure’s "10:15 Saturday Night" as the opening theme and Petite Meller’s "Watson" for the ending. Additionally, rapper Rico Nasty has contributed an original track, "YOU CAN'T RUN FROM ME," to the production.
Beyond the screen, the franchise continues to expand its footprint. While the original 2022 series remains a staple on Netflix, physical media collectors can look forward to a complete Blu-ray release from Aniplex of America arriving on October 28. Fans of the lore can also explore the prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, which began serialization in late 2024 and is currently being localized for international print release by Dark Horse.
