Streaming anime on the go is becoming a literal reality as Crunchyroll announces a partnership with the automotive distribution platform Appning by FORVIA. This integration will allow users to access the platform's extensive library directly through the infotainment systems of select vehicles.
The rollout begins with BMW and MINI models before scaling up significantly. The companies plan to expand this functionality across the broader BMW Group portfolio, with an eventual target of reaching over 40 different automotive brands worldwide. The service will be available in major markets including North America, Europe, Asia, India, and Australia.
This move follows a period of major structural changes for the platform, which transitioned away from free ad-supported streaming in late 2023 and adjusted its subscription pricing tiers earlier this year. As a joint venture under the Sony Group umbrella, Crunchyroll continues to solidify its position as the dominant global hub for anime distribution, now pushing into the automotive tech space to capture viewers in new environments.
