The Battle Spirits franchise has returned to television with the premiere of Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Kū. Following its debut on Tokyo MX and other Japanese networks on Tuesday, Crunchyroll has confirmed it is streaming the series for international viewers. The new production marks a return to a traditional television format for the long-running card game adaptation, which has seen various web-based and episodic iterations over the last several years.

Masashi Kudo, known for his work on Terminator Zero and Hayate the Combat Butler! Cuties, is directing the series at Bandai Namco Pictures and providing original character designs. The script is being handled by Toshizo Nemoto, whose credits include Log Horizon and Metallic Rouge. The series features a large voice cast, with Taichi Kusano starring as the protagonist Kū Bashin and Daiki Hamano voicing the enigmatic Zetsu Ajara. The production also features music by JAM Project, who perform the opening theme, "Here we are!," while the ending theme, "Pulse," is performed by Himegoto.

This release continues a legacy that began in 2008 with the original Battle Spirits: Shōnen Toppa Bashin series. While the franchise maintained a consistent annual broadcast schedule through 2017, recent years saw the series shift toward shorter net anime projects like Battle Spirits: Saga Brave and Battle Spirits: Mirage. With this move back to a standard TV broadcast, it remains to be seen if the series will return to the long-form storytelling typical of its earlier seasons or maintain the more condensed pacing of its recent web-exclusive entries.
