Nintendo has officially announced that the Crunchyroll application will be discontinued on the Nintendo Switch platform effective October 30, 2026. Users who currently have the application installed on their consoles will retain access to the service until that date, at which point the app will cease to function.
While the platform is losing this specific integration, Crunchyroll remains widely accessible across other gaming hardware, including Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The streaming service also continues to support mobile devices, various media players, and smart TVs. This change comes as the company shifts its focus toward broader distribution, including a recent partnership to bring its library to select vehicle infotainment systems, such as those in BMW and MINI models.
Regarding the future of the service on Nintendo hardware, Crunchyroll’s support documentation confirms that there are no current plans to bring the application to the Nintendo Switch 2. The company notes that the new console currently lacks support for several video-on-demand services, affecting a range of media applications beyond just anime streaming. As the October deadline approaches, users relying on the Switch for their viewing may want to transition to alternative devices to maintain uninterrupted access.
