Crunchyroll has expanded its library by adding an English dub for the first season of Gunma-chan, an anime series centered on the official mascot of Gunma Prefecture. Voice actor Shakyra Dunn confirmed via social media that she provides the voices for several characters, including Buchi, Francoise, and Meemi's Mom. Originally premiering in Japan in October 2021, the first season features 39 seven-minute episodes. The production, directed and written by Mitsuru Hongō at studio Ascension, follows the titular pony mascot, voiced by Karin Takahashi. The character originated as the "Yūma-chan" mascot in 1994 before being rebranded as the prefecture's official Gunma-chan in 2008. A second season of the series premiered in April 2023, with the primary cast and staff returning to the project.
