Crunchyroll has deepened its ties with Japanese media developer Link-U Group through a significant capital investment. By purchasing a 7.03% stake in the company for approximately 917 million yen, Crunchyroll has positioned itself as the fifth-largest shareholder of the firm. This transaction is part of a broader third-party share allotment aimed at fueling Link-U's long-term growth strategy.
For Link-U, the influx of capital is earmarked for their 'medium-term management plan 2030,' which prioritizes the global expansion of manga distribution. The company intends to leverage this partnership to refine its localization management and develop more robust digital platforms for international readers. This move aligns with Link-U's established track record of powering major industry services, including MANGA Plus and Manga UP!.
This investment reinforces the existing technical collaboration between the two companies, most notably seen in the Crunchyroll Manga app. Launched in late 2025 for iOS and Android in North America, the ad-free service relies on Link-U’s infrastructure to deliver titles from major publishers like Square Enix and Shueisha. While the streaming service and the manga app currently operate as distinct entities, this financial commitment suggests a continued focus on integrating digital reading experiences into the broader Crunchyroll ecosystem.
