The footage highlights the return of the arcade-style driving mechanics that first captivated players in the original 1999 arcade release, signaling a modern evolution for the long-dormant franchise.
The title is scheduled for a 2027 release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via the Steam and Microsoft Store platforms. This release follows a 2022 announcement that Sega was reviving the property, which has previously seen various iterations including Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars on the PSP and the mobile-exclusive Crazy Taxi City Rush.
In a statement regarding the game's production, Sega clarified its use of technology on the title's Steam page. The developer stated that generative AI tools were employed to assist staff with creative tasks and content optimization. The company explicitly noted that no AI was used to reference or generate the game’s performers. In the meantime, the franchise maintains its presence in the broader Sega catalog, with the character Axel joining Sonic Racing CrossWorlds as a free playable addition this week.
