The Aniplex One Focus livestream event held this past Saturday offered a fresh look at Grotesqqque, the upcoming omnibus anime film from director Atsushi Nishigori. The new trailer focuses specifically on the 'Yoroshiku★Girl' segment, showcasing the visual style and character designs for the second of the film's three distinct narrative chapters.
Nishigori, known for his work on The IDOLM@STER and DARLING in the FRANXX, is spearheading the project as director, screenwriter, and character designer. The film is produced by JOEN, a collaborative studio venture established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and Shueisha. Following its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal earlier this summer, the film is set to open in Japanese theaters on November 6.
Beyond the 'Yoroshiku★Girl' segment, which features a voice cast including Sara Minami, Ikumi Hasegawa, and Saori Hayami, the film is notable for its expansive musical collaboration. A total of 35 different musical acts are contributing to the project's three segments, with the band METALVERSE performing the opening theme, 'Shoot Shoot Shoot,' and Haoto providing the ending theme.
While the film's omnibus structure promises a variety of worldviews, the production's reliance on a massive roster of musical talent suggests a high-energy, multi-genre approach to the soundtrack. With the November release date approaching, the primary question remains how these three disparate stories will be balanced within the final runtime.
