The latest promotional video for Grotesqqque highlights the film's third segment, titled "Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque." The trailer offers a glimpse into the story's atmosphere and features the insert song "Tiny Luck," performed by Kairi Yagi. This segment stars Nagi Inoue, Aruno Nakanishi, Miku Ichinose, and Nao Tomisato, all members of the idol group Nogizaka46.
Directed by Atsushi Nishigori, who also handled the screenplay and character designs, the film is structured as an omnibus featuring three unique narratives. Beyond the "Nocturne" segment, the film includes "A(E)liens" and "Yoroshiku★Girl," each boasting its own distinct cast and a massive roster of musical contributors. In total, 35 different artists are credited across the film's soundtrack, underscoring the project's ambitious scope.
Produced by JOEN—the collaborative studio venture established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and Shueisha—the film is set for a Japanese theatrical debut on November 6. Following its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival earlier this summer, the film is scheduled for a U.S. premiere in New York City, where Nishigori is slated to appear for an in-person introduction.
Given the heavy involvement of CloverWorks and the high-profile producer lineup from JOEN, the project represents a significant creative experiment in the omnibus format. With three distinct worldviews packed into one runtime, it remains to be seen how the film balances its disparate musical and narrative styles.
