Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu continues to be an unstoppable force at the Japanese box office. During its fifth weekend, the Cygames Pictures production maintained its position at #1, pulling in 1.24 billion yen (approximately $7.80 million). Since its July 24 debut, the film has achieved a massive cumulative total of 11.05 billion yen. To sustain this momentum, organizers have announced upcoming 4DX screenings starting September 5, along with special cheering and penlight events scheduled throughout September.
Elsewhere on the charts, the latest Crayon Shin-chan entry, Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon, saw a slight climb, moving from #6 to #5. The 33rd installment of the long-running series has generated 2.26 billion yen to date. The film, which features a supernatural adventure in the land of yōkai, has benefited from a star-studded cast including Sairi Itō and comedy duo Mayurika.
Other notable industry performers include the fifth live-action Kingdom film, Tamashii no Kessen. Despite slipping from #5 to #7, the historical epic has successfully moved 4 million tickets, cementing its status as a major summer draw. Meanwhile, the live-action adaptation of the sports phenomenon Blue Lock saw a minor resurgence, rising to #9 in its third weekend. The soccer drama’s performance was bolstered by the addition of MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema screenings on August 21, helping it edge closer to the 1 billion yen mark.
