Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu has reclaimed the top spot at the Japanese box office during its seventh weekend, marking a significant milestone for the franchise. The film, which adapts the popular "Siren Arc" from Nagano's original manga, has now accumulated over 13.89 billion yen. This performance officially makes it the highest-grossing film released in Japan so far this year, overtaking the previous leader, Detective Conan: Highway no Datenshi.
The production, directed by Kei Oikawa at Cygames Pictures, continues to see strong engagement through specialized screenings. Following the introduction of 4DX showings on September 5, the film is scheduled for additional fan-focused events, including cheering screenings and penlight-supported sessions later this month. This sustained interest has pushed the title into the top 25 of Japan's all-time box office rankings.
Elsewhere in the charts, the Puella Magi Madoka Magica sequel, Walpurgisnacht: Rising, slipped to third place in its second weekend, bringing its total earnings to approximately 1.53 billion yen. Meanwhile, the 33rd Crayon Shin-chan film, Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon, continues its run, landing at #7 in its sixth weekend with a cumulative total exceeding 2.64 billion yen. The live-action adaptation Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen also remains in the top ten, currently sitting at #8 in its eighth week of release.
