The Chiikawa anime has unveiled a second promotional video, announcing that Momo Harumi has been cast as the character Furuhonya, recognizable by her crab hair ornament. This latest video offers a glimpse into the expanding world of the popular series.
The television anime adaptation of Nagano's manga initially premiered in April 2022, airing within Fuji TV's morning program Mezamashi Terebi. The broadcast schedule later expanded to twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting in April 2023. Sentai Filmworks holds the North American license for the series, making it available with English subtitles on the HIDIVE streaming service.
The franchise also saw a new anime series premiere in July 2025. Prior to this, older episodes were rebroadcast following the conclusion of new episode releases in April 2025. The first anime film, Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu (Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island), is slated for release in Japan on July 24.
Chiikawa centers on the daily life of a small, cute creature who navigates sometimes happy, sometimes stressful situations. The character enjoys food with friends like bees and rabbits, works diligently, and maintains a positive outlook.
