The television anime adaptation of Nyan Nyan Factory's Chainsmoker Cat (Yanineko) manga will present viewers with two distinct versions. An "Evil Dragon Unleashed" version, intended to align with the director's original vision, will be available alongside a standard "On-Air" version edited for terrestrial broadcast.
The uncensored "Evil Dragon Unleashed" edition will stream on premium services including AT-X, AnimeFesta, DMM TV, Hulu, Netflix, and Anime Times within Japan. While some platforms will carry both versions, 16 other Japanese streaming services will exclusively offer the broadcast-ready "On-Air" cut.
The series centers on Yani Neko, a catgirl struggling with a severe smoking habit and a perpetually messy apartment, as depicted in the original manga known for its toilet humor and gross-out gags. The anime stars Yūko Natsuyoshi as Yani, Misato Matsuoka as Yaku, and Yurie Funato as Hame. Taku Kimura directs at Bibury Animation Studio, with scripts by Takashi Aoshima.
The Chainsmoker Cat anime is set to premiere on July 2nd at 12:30 a.m. JST on Tokyo MX and BS11. The AT-X channel will begin airing the series on July 25th. The manga serialization continues in Kodansha's Young Magazine, with its third English volume released by Seven Seas on June 16th.
