The production staff for Chainsmoker Cat (Yanineko) has announced that veteran voice actress Yū Kobayashi will join the series' cast. Kobayashi is set to portray the character Penpen Neko, making her first appearance in the anime's sixth episode, which airs this Thursday.

Directed by Taku Kimura at Bibury Animation Studio, the series adapts Nyan Nyan Factory’s seinen manga, which explores the messy, nicotine-fueled life of a catgirl named Yani. Known for its unfiltered approach to gross-out humor, drug references, and adult themes, the anime has maintained a distinct broadcast strategy. Fans can choose between the standard 'On-Air' version for terrestrial television or the 'Evil Dragon Unleashed' version, which retains the director's original, uncensored vision.

While the series premiered in Japan on July 2, international viewers can catch the action via the OceanVeil streaming platform, which offers the 'Evil Dragon Unleashed' cut. The show features a script by Takashi Aoshima and music composed by industry legend Keiichi Suzuki. With the 13th volume of the source material recently published by Kodansha, the anime continues to lean into the subversive, anthropomorphic comedy that has defined the franchise since its inception.
