Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi, the beloved slice-of-life manga by Yuri Sonoda, has officially resumed serialization on Kodansha's Comic Days platform. The series had been on an extended hiatus since January 2025, when Sonoda stepped back from the project to focus on health concerns.

In a statement accompanying the return, Sonoda confirmed that while the series is back, readers should expect a more measured release schedule moving forward. The creator emphasized that despite the slower pace, the same level of care and detail will be poured into every upcoming chapter.

Since its debut in December 2021, the story of an unlikely bond between a pampered house cat and a rugged stray has resonated deeply with readers, culminating in a grand prize win at the 54th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards. Seven Seas Entertainment, which publishes the series in English, currently has six volumes available for fans looking to catch up on the duoโ€™s journey through the streets.
