Konami revealed Castlevania: Belmont's Curse during its recent Press Start livestream, offering a first look at the franchise's first original game in over a decade. The "Bloody Tears" trailer highlights a shift to 15th-century Paris, where players control Rose Belmont as she navigates a city besieged by monsters. The project is currently in development at Evil Empire, the studio behind the roguelike hit Dead Cells, with Motion Twin providing advisory support.

The voice cast bridges the gap between the games and the popular animated series. Alejandra Reynoso and Graham McTavish are confirmed to reprise their roles as Sypha Belnades and Dracula, respectively. They are joined by Abby Trott as the new lead, Rose Belmont, alongside J.B. Blanc as Trevor Belmont and Liam O'Brien, who returns to voice Isaac. The game is set for a multi-platform release on October 15, spanning current-gen consoles and PC.

This announcement follows a period where the franchise primarily focused on archival efforts, most recently the Castlevania Dominus Collection released in August 2024. While the Castlevania animated universe has continued to expand with projects like Castlevania: Nocturne, this title serves as the first original interactive experience since 2014's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

With the involvement of the Dead Cells developers, the title promises a blend of traditional exploration and modern action mechanics. It remains to be seen how the studio will adapt the series' classic whip-based combat to their signature design style.
