The latest trailer for Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, unveiled during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 presentation, offers a deeper look at the title's core mechanics. The footage highlights fresh character designs, expanded environments, and new enemy types, providing a clearer picture of the gameplay loop players can expect when the title arrives next year.
While the game was originally slated for a 2026 release, developer ArtPlay confirmed a delay to 2027 last month. Koji Igarashi, co-founder of ArtPlay, noted that the project is currently in the final stages of development. The team remains committed to completing the title in honor of creative director Shutaro Iida, who passed away earlier this year.
Serving as a prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the game shifts the focus to Leo and the Black Wolves as they infiltrate the Ethereal Castle. The franchise has seen consistent expansion since the 2018 release of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, with subsequent entries like Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 further building out the series' gothic lore.
With the game now targeting a 2027 release, it remains to be seen how the final build will incorporate the vision of the late Shutaro Iida alongside the established mechanics of the series. Which of the newly revealed gameplay mechanics are you most interested in seeing in action?
