The upcoming anime adaptation of Kumo Kagyuu's Blade & Bastard light novel series has unveiled its main production staff and a second teaser promotional video. The action fantasy is slated for release in 2027.
Helming the adaptation is director Tomoki Kobayashi, known for his work on Akame ga Kill!. The series composition will be handled by Naruhisa Arakawa (Sousei no Onmyouji), with character design by Rina Iwamoto, who served as chief animation director for Kubikiri Cycle: Aoiro Savant to Zaregotozukai. Sound direction falls to Kisuke Koizumi (Tongari Boushi no Atelier), and the music score is by Hayato Matsuo (Drifters). The anime is being produced by Studio Xingfu.
The Blade & Bastard light novel, illustrated by so-bin, launched in December 2022. J-Novel Club is handling the digital English simulpub and has released five volumes, with the sixth due in September. Yen Press is publishing the series physically in English, with the fifth volume released in May.
A manga adaptation by Makoto Fuugetsu has also been running since June 2023, with Yen Press releasing the English physical version. The eighth Japanese volume shipped in June, and the fifth English volume is scheduled for September.
