After a 12-year hiatus, Shiden Kanzaki’s action-packed sci-fi series Black Bullet is making a return under Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko label. The upcoming project, titled Black Bullet: New World Order, is described as a revised and expanded take on the original narrative. The new release schedule is aggressive, with two volumes hitting shelves each month for four consecutive months starting in November 2026.

The structure of the reboot aims to consolidate the original story while pushing into new territory. The first four volumes of New World Order will adapt the events of the original six light novel volumes. Following this, the fifth volume will serve as a completely rewritten version of the original series' seventh installment, which was last published in April 2014. To mark the announcement, a new promotional video features voice actors Yuuki Kaji and Rina Hidaka reprising their respective roles as Rentarou Satomi and Enju Aihara.

While the original light novel series saw a 13-episode anime adaptation by Kinema Citrus and Orange in 2014, the franchise has remained dormant in the literary space for over a decade. The original run, illustrated by Saki Ukai, was previously localized in English by Yen Press, which also handled the manga adaptation by Morinohon. With Kanzaki’s separate project, Aku no Shinzui, slated for Spring 2027, the author is clearly moving back into a busy production cycle.

Given the significant gap between the original run and this reboot, do you think the revised format will successfully bridge the gap for new readers while satisfying those who followed the series since 2011?
