The Battle in 5 Seconds manga is entering an indefinite hiatus as artist Miyakokasiwa focuses on medical treatment. In a statement released via the Manga ONE app, the artist revealed that their health began to decline significantly in June, eventually making the physical demands of illustration unsustainable. Following a series of medical evaluations, Miyakokasiwa received a diagnosis of depression alongside an additional underlying condition.
This marks the second time the series has paused serialization due to the artist's health. Miyakokasiwa previously took a break in October 2024, citing personal and medical challenges, before returning to the project in January 2025. Despite these setbacks, the creator expressed deep gratitude to the readership as the series recently marked its 11th anniversary.
Originally launched as a web series by Saizล Harawata, the current iteration serves as a remake with updated artwork that began serialization on Ura Sunday in 2015. The story, which follows Akira Shiroyanagi as he navigates a deadly game of wits and supernatural abilities, continues to be published in English by Comikey. While the 2021 anime adaptation remains available on platforms like Crunchyroll, there is currently no word on when the manga will resume its final chapters.
