Fans awaiting the arrival of Bandai Namco’s latest retail expansion will have to wait a bit longer. Bandai Namco Amusement America announced that the planned openings for the Bandai Namco Cross Store and The Gundam Base at the Mall of America in Minneapolis have been postponed. The stores were originally slated to open their doors on September 30, but the company has yet to provide a revised timeline for the launch.
In a brief statement, the company confirmed that it will share a new opening date and additional details regarding the store experience once they are finalized. The delay follows a period of rapid growth for the brand in North America, which saw the opening of a Cross Store in Brooklyn in early 2025 and a dedicated Gundam Base location in the Chicago area late last year.
While the Minneapolis expansion is currently on hold, the global footprint for these retail concepts continues to widen. Bandai Namco currently operates over 30 Gundam Base locations worldwide, with the first store debuting in Korea over two decades ago. As the company works to resolve the scheduling shift for the Mall of America site, the status of the project remains an open question for local enthusiasts.
