The production team for Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar has confirmed that Risa Hayamizu is joining the voice cast. Hayamizu will play Mama Caroni, a character who acts as both the adoptive mother and cooking mentor to the series' lead, Welsh. This casting update comes just ahead of the show's scheduled broadcast launch.
Along with the new casting announcement, the studio provided fresh character visuals for two previously revealed roles. Wataru Takagi will voice the Bonta hero Khan Karkass, while Show Hayami is set to portray the powerful dragon Azalar. These additions join a roster that already features Rikuya Yasuda as the titular Welsh and Yūki Kaji as the prince Shedar.
Directed by Naoki Horiuchi at Studio Massket, the story tracks the unlikely alliance between a country boy and a royal heir as they work to stop a tyrant. The series features character designs by Saori Nakashiki, with Kenichi Yamashita handling the Japanese script adaptation. Musical duties are split between Hironobu Kageyama and Masami Okui, who perform the opening theme, "Bokura no Mirai e."
This project represents a major original production for the French company Ankama, which gained international recognition for its DOFUS tactical MMORPG. With the premiere set for October 2 on Tokyo MX, the series brings together a mix of international creative oversight and experienced Japanese animation staff. The involvement of directors and designers with credits on Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song- and Black Clover suggests a high level of technical polish for the studio's latest venture.
