AnimEigo has announced an English dub and June 9 Blu-ray release for the anime special Hotori: Simply Wishing for Hope (Hotori - Tada Saiwai o Koinegau). This marks the first-ever physical home video release for the 2005 Sunrise production in North America.
The English dub, handled by SkySet Entertainment, features Sky Santacruz as Suzu, Mana T. Johnson as Hotori Shimizu, and Freddie Heinz as Kaname Shimizu, among others. The anime tells a poignant story about the friendship between an android and a girl with memory loss, exploring themes of memory, experience, and humanity.
Originally aired in August 2005, Hotori: Simply Wishing for Hope won a 2005 Animax Award and is based on Maya Miyazaki's award-winning short story. The Blu-ray release will feature an HD restoration and the new English dub. AnimEigo also recently released The Dagger of Kamui on Blu-ray and has Alien Nine scheduled for May.
