Distributor Anime Limited has officially secured the rights to bring the gritty crime thriller Banana Fish to home video in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The company plans to roll out a Blu-ray release for the series in early 2027, marking a return for the title to physical media markets.
Fans looking to revisit the streets of New York will also find the series on Netflix starting August 12. This streaming release will include both English and French dubs, with Anime Limited confirming that the previously announced lead voice cast will remain intact. Further details regarding the full supporting cast for these language tracks are expected to be shared in the coming months.
Produced by studio MAPPA and directed by Hiroko Utsumi, the 2018 adaptation famously shifted Akimi Yoshida’s original 1980s manga setting to a modern-day backdrop. The series, which follows the tragic and intense bond between street gang leader Ash Lynx and Japanese photographer Eiji Okamura, previously saw a limited streaming run on Amazon Prime Video. With this new licensing agreement, the series finds a new home after the removal of those previous streams late last year.
