The hit rakugo-themed anime Akane-banashi is officially set to return for a second season. The announcement came during the broadcast of the first season's finale on Saturday, with the new season slated to premiere in January 2027. It will air as part of the IMAnimation programming block across TV Asahi's 24 affiliate stations and BS Asahi.

Alongside the second season confirmation, the anime's official website revealed six new supporting cast members who appeared in the final episode of the inaugural season. The new additions include Houchuu Ootsuka as Miroku Kashiwaya, Ryoutarou Okiayu as Shoumei Tsubakiya, Hiroshi Naka as Ensou Sanmeitei, Mutsumi Tamura as Urara Ransaika, Shinichiro Miki as Ryuun Kenpuutei, and Tomokazu Seki as Chouchou Konjakutei.

Produced by Zexcs, the first season of Akane-banashi adapted the drama performing arts manga by Yuuki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue. The series premiered on April 4, with streaming available on YouTube in North and Latin America and worldwide on Netflix. The original manga has been serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump since February 2022 and is published by Shueisha, with VIZ Media handling its English simulpub.
