King Amusement Creative has announced that Shinichi Sawaragi and Tanku Gasuyama's manga A Pen, Handcuffs, and a Common-Law Marriage (Pen to Wappa to Jijitsu Kon) will receive a television anime adaptation. The series blends crime-solving with unexpected romance.

The story centers on 40-year-old detective Eiji Kirisame, who encounters Tsugumi Kuchinashi, a silent high school girl who witnessed a crime. Tsugumi communicates through drawings, which Eiji uses to piece together the case. The plot takes a turn when Tsugumi proposes marriage to him via her drawings.

Launched in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine in December 2022, the manga has achieved 400,000 copies in circulation. Yen Press has licensed the series for English release, with the first volume arriving on March 24.

Gasuyama provided a celebratory illustration to mark the anime announcement. The manga's seventh volume is scheduled for release in Japan on April 28.
