A rare assembly of talent took place at the Tokyo X convention in Houston last week, as four international voice actors behind the iconic Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z joined forces. Japanese veteran Masako Nozawa, Spanish-language voice Mario Castañeda, English-language voice Sean Schemmel, and Hindi-language voice Ankur Javeri appeared together on stage to deliver a synchronized Kamehameha, a moment captured and shared by voice actor Georgina Sanchez.

The appearance brought together the voices responsible for bringing Akira Toriyama’s legendary protagonist to life across diverse global markets. The convention, held at the Reliant Center from September 26 to 27, highlighted the enduring legacy of the Dragon Ball franchise, which first debuted its Dragon Ball Z adaptation in 1989.

Masako Nozawa remains a central figure in the industry, recently honored by the Japanese government as a Person of Cultural Merit in 2025. Her career, which includes holding Guinness World Records for her tenure as Goku, continues to reach milestones, including a 90th birthday celebration earlier this August. While the franchise has seen various iterations—from the original run to the 2009 Dragon Ball Kai update—the collaborative energy shown in Houston underscores the unique, cross-cultural bond shared by those who have voiced the character over the decades.
